5 Weeks Out From Mr Kuala Lumpur 2013

Alright, I know I’ve said I’ll update my progress on Fabodylous every 2 weeks but I failed to do so. Sorry about that. I was focusing on my personal training career, my awesome video-sharing fan page, Passiontab.com (you MUST check it out), covering the entire Mr Singapore 2013 event recently and of course, actually dieting and training for Mr KL itself!

This year, I’m learning from my Mr Kuala Lumpur 2012 experience to bring in the perfect package to stage. All the criticism I’ve received – “Your legs were thin”, “Your abs weren’t clear”, “Your arms could be thicker”, I’m taking them all in, processing and evaluating them and taking action to fix those problem areas. Plus, I’m also making sure I don’t repeat the same mistakes I made last year, mainly peaking too early (and losing muscle mass), being negative, losing confidence and succumbing to the pressure and loading up on too much food the day before the contest.

My progress from 18 March to 20 April. I was about 81kg on 18 March and 78kg on 20 April. Not much weight loss, I know. But I’m not aiming for a certain weight, but a certain look – ripped. If you’re losing plenty of weight but your progress photos show minimal changes, watch out – you may be losing muscle mass instead of fat. Click on the image for a larger view.

Right now I have a six-day training cycle. Every six days, I weight train 5 times and perform 3 low-intensity cardio sessions, about 50 minutes each session. Diet wise, I’m taking in more carbs now, which is something I learnt from a mistake I made last year – lowering carbs too fast and too low. Thus, I’ll be able train harder in the gym and build more muscle mass.

So what can you expect from this year’s Wee Kiat at Mr KL 2013? Well, hopefully, you’ll see a bigger, fuller and more aesthetic me, with the same (or better) conditioning and vascularity I had in 2012. I want to thank all my friends and family who have supported me throughout this period either in person or on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter. You guys make this contest more meaningful to me and motivate me through my restrictive diet and intense workouts. For those who are interested to join/attend Mr Kuala Lumpur, the event will be held at Wisma OCM, Jalan Hang Jebat, KL on 26 May. Registration starts at 10am and show starts at 12pm.
